Who attends

Who this course is for

Future radiation protection officers

Anyone appointed as SSB for handheld XRF devices needs radiation protection expertise (module R2.2) plus device training. Both are covered in this course.

Officers with expired expertise

Expertise must be refreshed every 5 years. The course also serves as a refresher when your last training is some time ago.

Common questions

Questions about the R2.2 course

What is module R2.2?

A course module under the German technical expertise guideline for operating X-ray equipment – relevant for X-ray fluorescence (XRF), among other things. It covers the physics involved, biological effects, dose limits, legal requirements, practical protection measures and fault response.

Is device training included?

Yes. Device training is acquired hands-on at the handheld XRF instrument: safe handling, performing measurements, safety functions and documentation. Expertise and device training are covered in a single appointment.

What does participation cost?

The participation fee is from €899.00 for the two-day course including device training.

How long is the expertise valid?

Radiation protection expertise must be refreshed every 5 years. Schedule the refresher in time so the appointment as radiation protection officer remains sound.

How do I register?

Send a short note via the consulting form – subject: “Module R2.2 course, January 2027”. You will then receive the details of the schedule.

In which language is the course held?

The course is held in German, because the exam and the authority documents are required in German.

Does the course also apply to handheld LIBS?

No. LIBS devices use class 3B laser radiation and are not covered by radiation protection law but by the OStrV. What matters there is the laser safety officer, the risk assessment and annual instruction – details on the safety page.
